Orthodontics (commonly called braces) is the branch of Dentistry that specializes in the
diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities.
Orthodontics or braces can use metal brackets, clear or tooth colored brackets, lingual brackets or even clear
plastic aligners commonly known by the brand name Invisalign.
The need for Orthodontics or braces is easily justified when crowding or malpositioned
teeth are evident. The need is less likely to be noticed in many cases. Some are listed below:
Early or late loss of baby teeth
Difficulty chewing or biting
Crowding, malpositioned, or blocked out teeth
Jaws that shift or make sounds
Biting the cheek or roof of the mouth
Teeth that do not meet at all
Jaws and teeth that are out of proportion to the rest of the face
Finger sucking or pacifier habits continued beyond the age of six
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial examination no later than age seven. By age 7, enough permanent teeth
have come in and enough jaw growth has occurred, that problems can be identified. Sometimes, however, the need for Orthodontic
treatment or braces is evident much earlier, and that is when a visit to a General or Family Dentist becomes important since
very often they get to see the child before the Orthodontist.
Dr Boudet, as a General Dentist with training in Orthodontics, is very qualified to make
a recommendation about Orthodontic treatment to a patient, and offer the needed Orthodontic services to his patients, with
a choice of metal or clear braces and orthodontics with clear aligners commonly known by the brand name Invisalign.
